Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Jonatha Brooke will bring this poignant and humorous one-woman musical play to Philadelphia as part of Philly Fringe Fest 2013. My Mother Has Four Noses
is based on Brooke’s care of her mother during her mother’s final two years battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Of her late mother, Brooke said, “She was a character. She was a published poet, a Christian Scientist, a clown, and always up for drama. Almost daily she would say, ‘Boolie (my nickname), that’s good! Are you getting this down? We should make a play out of it!’ I did get it down, and I did write a play. It is my songs, her poems and our stories enmeshed. It is a comedy, a tragedy, but mostly a love story. And Mom would have insisted that I tell it.”
Jonatha Brooke and her music are well-known to WXPN listeners from her years as a solo artist (since 1994) and before that as a member of the duo The Story. She has released ten albums and her songs have been featured in television shows and commercials, and in films.
The Philly Fringe Fest production of My Mother Has Four Noses will be only its fourth, following summer performances at the Warner Theater in Torrington, CT and at the Playwright’s Center in Minneapolis.
