Birdie Busch – XPoNential Music Festival
With beautiful skies and a festival atmosphere everywhere, Birdie Busch got the day off to a great start at the Marina Stage. This Philadelphia native restaurant hostess-turned folk star played a number of songs, some off of her latest album, 2010’s Everyone Will Take You In.
Birdie’s staggering brand of upbeat, honest folk fit the fun-filled vibe of the day perfectly. With Birdie playing guitar and singing lead vocals, along with a backing band of drums, bass, keys, and slide guitar, her music is an interesting blend of folk, country, blues, and rockabilly. Supported by such grooving drums, pulsing bass, wailing slide guitar, and swirling keys, Birdie had the opportunity to really showcase her voice. And what a voice is is — filled with penetrating honesty and sharp beauty, every line she utters oozes with simple poetic grace. It is this subtle charm to her music that makes Birdie so appealing.
As the afternoon wore on and Birdie continued to play, the crowd kept growing steadily, with every listener sensing that there is indeed something very special about this girl. A combination of grace, modesty, and passion, Birdie Busch has got the day off on the right foot.
