The late, great Johnny Cash would have turned 80 on Feb. 26th & to mark his birthday, Legacy Recordings is putting out: “Bootleg Vol. 4: The Soul of Truth”, on April 3rd. It contains over 50 previously released and unreleased gospel & spiritual songs that Cash recorded in the ’70′s & 80′s.

Made mention of this XPN MusicNote on the XPN Morning Show today: Cowboy Junkies will release the 4th & final album of their “Nomad Series” next month. It’s called “The Wilderness”. The band will also start a tour in March that includes a stop at Glenside PA’s Keswick Theater on 3/9/12.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Josh Ritter is releasing a 6-song EP on Feb. 21st. Recorded in Brooklyn, NY the EP- “Bringing in the Darlings” will be made available via limited edition digital/CD and 10″ vinyl formats. Each of the six songs apparently has the word “darlings” in it, hence the name. A full-length, as yet untitled album, is in the works by Josh Ritter.

Northampton MA indie-folk group Winterpills is releasing its fourth album, All My Lovely Goners, on Valentine’s Day, and this Thursday evening on XPN2 we’ll listen back to an acoustic session and interview John Vettese recorded with band leaders Phillip Price and Flora Reed when they were in town last November. Tune in during the 5:00 hour to hear them talk about the record, and play acoustic renditions of their new songs “Amazing Sky” and “Feather Blue.”

Coming off Sunday’s Super Bowl Halftime extravaganza in Indianapolis, Madonna has announced that she will begin the North American leg of her 2012 tour in Philadelphia on August 28 @ Wells Fargo Center. Tickets will go a sale February 13 at 10am exclusively through Comcast TIX.

* It’s official: After being sidelined for the past five months due to vocal cord surgery, Adele will make her return to the stage at the annual Grammy Awards telelcast on February 12th. Adele says having the Grammys as her first performance since her surgery is “very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all.” She has six nominations, including album of the year for “21″ and record of the year for “Rolling in the Deep.”
