Free at Noon, February 26: Blood Feathers

To be honest, I don’t know if there could be a better pick for today’s Live Friday, considering whose birthday it is. (If you’re not in the know, think “Ring of Fire” or “I Walk the Line”, both famous songs from The Man in Black.)
Today Blood Feathers, the southern rock ‘n’ roll outfit hailing from Philly, paid homage to Johnny Cash today on the World Cafe stage. Their latest release, Goodness Gracious, is a bold blend of rock influences, from Dylan to the Strokes (and of course Cash), and their performances are something to behold. In fact, the name of their album comes from the exclamation of a very young audience member after a show. Not really surprising, if that performance was anything like the one we had today. Multiple electric guitars, some very intense percussion, and enough energy for 2 1/2 bands…not to mention some very, very good songs–all of it combined to make one of the most energetic performances I’ve seen for a while. Happy Birthday, Mr. Cash!
