    Free at Noon Non-COMM Thursday

Today’s FAN was a melange of artists and style, starting off with Amy Correia, followed by The Constellations, and finished off by JP, Chrissie, and the Fairground Boys.

Amy Correia stood on stage, opening with a piano number, switching to an acoustic guitar and ending her set with a ukulele in her hands. Correia got her start in coffee shops and the intimate underground circuit in New York, playing her bright Americana to a growing fan base. That experience has no doubt helped her fine-tune her stage presence, and today Correia had the Non-COMM attendees on their feet and moving to the music. With strings, guitars, background vocals, and Correia’s material from her fan-funded latest, it was a great way to start off the concert.

    Set List:
    1. You Go Your Way
    2. Powder Blue Transam
    3. City Girl
    4. Love Changes Everything

I want to thank all my fans & friends in Philly for their longstanding support…And for helping me raise $$ to make my new album “You Go Your Way.” We raised over 35K and now I’ll be releasing it “officially” this Summer. Up next was The Constellations, a nine-person outfit self-described as a ‘psychedelic soul-rock explosion’. Playing from their newly released debut, “American Gothic”, the stage full of people was also full of catchy energy. Their large line up is essential because they need every spare hand. With bass, guitars, percussion, keys, and random noise-makers such as clappers, the band made an concept album telling of Atlanta, their home base. They played from this album today, and they didn’t leave any of their instruments or energies in The Athens of the South.

    Set List:
    1. Setback
    2. Perfect Day
    3. We’re Here to Save the Day
    4. Felicia

“Southern Gothic” out June 22nd. Playing Bonaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Mile High Music Fest, and Bumbershoot.

The last group to come on was JP, Chrissie, and the Fairground boys. It was quite a transition–the World Cafe stage packed full of keyboards, bodies, guitars, and various percussion instruments changing quickly to three people, sitting in chairs with their guitars. The band is comprised of JP Jones, a Welsh folk-rocker, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, and their backing band The Fairground Boys, though only one was present for today’s show. The three played from their upcoming album, “Fidelity”, Jones and Hynde trading off vocals in a touching yet edgy duets.

    Set List:
    1. If You Let Me
    2. Perfect Lover
    3. Fairground Luck

If it’s a harbinger of things to come, this kick-off of XPN’s tenth Non-COMMvention means the next to days are going to be just plain great.
