Vermont singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell returns with a new album called Hadestown on March 9th on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. An ambitious “folk-opera,” the album is based upon the ancient Greek myth of the poet Orpheus and his doomed quest to rescue his wife Eurydice from the underworld. Mitchell has assembled an excellent cast of characters including Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) who plays the part of Orpheus, Greg Brown as Hades, Ben Knox Miller of The Low Anthem as Hermes and Ani DiFranco as Hades’ wife, Persephone.  Anaïs sings the part of Eurydice on this very engaging new body of work from a wonderful artist.
