My Morning Download 2/21/11 – Southeast Engine

You like The Band? Wilco? Okkervil River? Well if you like them, chances are you’ll dig Southeast Engine Never heard of them? Well, hopefully that will change with the release of their 5th album Canary on March 29th on the recently revived Misra Records.

    The vitals:
The band was discovered by The Wrens, formed by frontman Adam Remnant and drummer Leo DeLuca.
The kind of music they play: Americana, rustic story-telling heartland rock that could have been recorded in Woodstock in 1972.

On the band’s new album, the songwriting conceptually tells the story of a family living in a small Appalachian town in southeast Ohio during the Great Depression of the 1930′s. Lyrically it covers timeless topics of social, cultural and political concerns. Musically, it’s classic rock wisely dressed up in 2011 clothes. It’s one of the best roots-rock albums of 2011 so far.
