Singer-songwriter Courtney Jaye was born in Pittsburgh, spent her high school years in Atlanta, lived in Arizona, Hawaii, Athens and Austin, Texas. Currently she spends much of her time between Nashville and Atlanta. It’s the many roads of travel that have well informed Courtney’s stories and songs. Her new album The Exotic Sounds of Courtney Jaye is an excellent and engaging collection of songs that balances girl-group rockers, Americana torch & twang songs, and laid back, easy going charmers. Not your typical singer-songwriter stuff, Courtney’s voice packs an understated yet powerful punch in a sweet and sexy way. There’s some great harmonies on the record and some very very melodic guitar playing with the “exotica” coming from some interesting rhythmic arrangements. Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses duets with Courtney on the Jesus and Mary Chain cover, “Sometimes Always.” Courtney is also featured on the new Black Rebel Motorcycle Club album.
