I Wanna Hold Your Hand

I remember it being 7th grade, but it must have been 8th grade, because Columbia didn’t release the single until December 26, 1963. I was 13 years old. I was in my basement bedroom near Hockessin, Delaware, listening to 1380 AM WAMS, the only radio station in Wilmington playing rock ‘n’ roll in those days. I remember vividly that when “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” came on—it was one of the first times they’d ever played it—I was electrified. I went to school the next day and asked everybody if they’d heard of this great new group called “The Beatles.” No one had. Of course within a few weeks, everyone had.
