810: Jay-Z becomes head of Def Jam Records
Rapper Jay-Z “retired” in 2003, but came out of retirement in October 2004 to head up Def Jam Records, a subsidiary of Universal. The label business was nothing new to Jay-Z; he cofounded Rock-A-Fella Records in 1996 with Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke. Jay-Z remains CEO and president of both labels and is one of the most financially successful musicians around.

You gotta be kidding me - Jay-Z heads up Def Jam beats out Gil Scott-Heron? You guys are being far too literal about defining the concept of an “ironic statement.”
