The Phill-E Street Band Unveiled
John Grecia - Piano
John Grecia has been playing the piano for over a decade. Mixing jazz, blues, classical, rock, and a bit of political commentary, Grecia has been touring with the John Grecia Band, an outlet for his original songs. With his band, Grecia has performed at the Sundance Film Festival for starts like James Ganfolfini and Billy Baldwin.
Matt Santry - It feels good to root for the good guy. Philly singer-songwriter Matt Santry got his start in music by playing for children with disabilities, whom he worked with as a social worker. Today his audience has expanded to a legion of local and national fans. ESPN’s Cold Pizza donned him the nation’s Hottest Unsigned Artist, and he was the subject of the pilot episode of music documentary show Hidden Tracks earlier this month.
Scot Sax - Guitar
Scot Sax is a Philly-based singer-songwriter-guitarist with quite a resume. He has received a gold record for his song "I Am the Summertime" on the American Pie soundtrack, appeared on the box of Cocoa Krispies with his band Wanderlust, taught a class at the University of the Arts, and opened for The Who and Robert Plant. Known recently for his collaborations with rising star and Philly native Sharon Little, Sax also host Open Mic Night at Milkboy in Bryn Mawr and fronts the band Saxploitation. Now he adds the Phill-E Street Band to this impressive resume.
Larry Toft – Trombone
If you see a trombone in the Delaware Valley, there's a decent chance that Larry Toft is standing behind it. A Temple University graduate, Toft performs with countless groups in the region, ranging from the West Philadelphia Orchestra to Bobby Zankel's Warriors of the Wonderful Sound to the Phil Giordano Orchestra to the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra. He is also well-versed in salsa, having played with legends Johnny Pacheco of the Fania All-Stars, Lalo Rodriguez, and Johnny Rivera.
Tommy Joyner – Drums
As head of MilkBoy Recording in Ardmore, Tommy Joyner mixes, produces, and engineers music from Philadelphia's cream of the crop, from Sharon Little to Gillian Grassie. He joins the Phill-E Street Band on the drums.
Jon Thompson – Tenor Sax
Tom Laskas - Bass
From Philly's renowned MilkBoy recordings, Tom Laskas has worked with a number of artists including Gordon Gano (Violent Femmes) and Tom Marshall (Phish). After managing Sharon Little's tour with Robert Plant, Allison Krauss, and Johnny Lange, Laskas also joined a number of bands including Philly Local band Apparatus and Los Angeles-based band The Shakers. Clearly this experienced bassist, who plays a range of styles from experimental to funk, loves playing music as much as he does helping others.
