Toots & The Maytals - True Love - V2

One of true architects and legends of reggae, Toots Hibbert & The Maytals are responsible for some of the reggae classics of our time, including “Pressure Drop,” ”Time Tough,” “Monkey Man,” “Funky Kingston,” and “54-46 Was My Number.”

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Toot’s musical legacy precedes this collection, True Love, a stunning, well executed star-studded affair. Taking a page out of Carlos Santana’s play book in his making of the Grammy award winning Supernatural, Toots gathered a wide range of guest stars for the making of True Love.

The all-star guests on True Love include Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, Ben Harper, Terry Hall (former frontman for The Specials), reggae legends Ken Boothe, Marcia Griffiths, U-Roy, and The Skatalites, Ryan Adams (on “Time Tough”), Eric Clapton, newcomer Rachael Yamagata, Trey Anastasio (on “Sweet and Dandy”), and No Doubt, who turn in an absolutely incredible version of “Monkey Man” with Toots.

True Loveis great from the first song to the last. The collaborations are inspiring and fun; this is definitely a “roll down your windows and sing along” kind of album – and Toots and The Maytals are in rare form.
