Old 97's - Drag It Up - New West

Coming off their explosive performance at this year’s XPN Singer-Songwriter Weekend, the Old 97’s – fronted by Rhett Miller – return with a fine new collection. It’s their first new collection since 2001’s Satellite Rides and the first since Rhett Miller’s solo debut in 2002, The Instigator.

Making good on his promise to return with the band after last year’s incredible solo acoustic performance at Singer-Songwriter Weekend in 2003, Rhett and his bandmates debuted a handful of new songs from Drag It Up to the faithful who lasted through the rain along with some of their old favorites.

Drag It Up captures the Old 97’s doing what they do best: mixing up rock, country, and psychedelia with the occasional surf guitar riff thrown in for good measure. Recorded on 8 tracks, and mostly live in the studio, Drag It Up is a record sure to satisfy ’97’s fans. The band sounds relaxed and confident.

Songs like “The New Kid,” “Won’t Be Home,” “Bloomington,” “Adelaide,” “Friends Forever,” and “Smokers” highlight a collection that sits alongside the ‘97’s previous work as some of their best.
