Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous - Brute/Beaute

More Adventurous is the third album from the Los Angeles based Rilo Kiley, fronted by vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Jenny Lewis. Sharing musical sensibilities and indie-rock affinity with bands like Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, Decemberists – Rilo Kiley are next generation rock and roll who have released a must hear album for 2004.

Together with her songwriting partner Blake Sennett, More Adventurous is reflective and sassy, with artsy storytelling, interesting musical arrangements and strong melodies. Mostly it’s about Lewis’s vocals and she shines throughout on songs like the indie-rock doo-wop of “I Never,” “Portions For Foxes,” “Does He Love You, “ the cynical “It’s A Hit,” and the title song.

Lewis’s vocals bring to mind Chrissie Hynde, Petula Clark, at times Maria McKee; it’s a voice you can quickly fall in love with. Stylistically, Rilo Kiley are a little all over the map. But the terrain they cover is fresh, wistful and pleasantly stylish.
