The Free At Noon at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia is SOLD OUT, as Spoon performs a live midday concert on Monday.

Austin, Texas indie-rock five-piece Spoon is back from a few years of silence with its latest record, They Want My Soul, released earlier this month on Loma Vista records. The band took time off after its 2010 release Transference, at which point singer Britt Daniel told the bloggers at The Line of Best Fit that he was looking for "something that was going to reinvigorate me, to excite me about working on new stuff again.”  It was time well spent: the new album is bustling with urgency and the band sounds energized on singles like “Rent I Pay” and “Do You.” The band is in town on Labor Day Weekend to play the Made In America Festival, but they’ll join us for a special Labor Day Free at Noon at World Cafe Live on Monday, September 1st. Listen to the broadcast on 88.5 FM, watch the webcast at XPN.org or RSVP to join us at World Cafe Live.

September’s Artist To Watch is the Milwaukee, Wisconsin band Field Report. On October 7th, the band is releasing their sophomore album, Marigolden. This week the band’s single, “Home (Leave The Lights On)” is our Gotta Hear Song of the Week. You can listen to it here

The band is fronted by singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Porterfield.

Marigolden more than satisfies the longing we’ve had for more music from Field Report after being so thoroughly impressed by their 2012 self-titled debut. This time around Field Reports adds more rhythms, synths, flourishes of electronica, musical depth and storytelling craft into their carefully executed “folk” rock songs. The musical maturity and growth on the album is stunning. At the heart of Field Report’s songs is Porterfield’s voice – yearning, aching, compromised, hurt, yet optimistic – and his acoustic guitar.

We’ll announce September’s Artist To Watch on Tuesday, September 2nd at 4pm. Website | Facebook
