Join us for the Free At Noon at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, as Greg Holden performs a live midday concert on Friday.

Greg Holden may be best known for his songwriting, but that is about to change. His debut full length studio album, Chase the Sun, released on March 20th to Warner Bros., has all the markings of a wildly talented songwriter not only capable of telling stories, but also bringing those stories to life in his musical arrangements and talent for curating a catchy melody. Although most well known for writing Philip Phillips' smash hit "Home" and his own "The Lost Boy", a song inspired by Dave Eggers' novel about a Sudanese refugee, which hit iTunes #1 in Holland, raised $50,000 for the Red Cross, and was featured on Sons of Anarchy, Holden has nothing but success on the horizon for him following his successful major label debut. Born in Scotland, Holden spent his teenage years in England idolizing Bob Dylan's rebellious attitude before relocating to New York City in 2009 to get his career off the ground. As of now he has no local dates besides the Free at Noon planned, so be sure to get out and catch the budding singer-songwriter at World Cafe on the last Friday of July.

Tune in to the Free At Noon Doubleheader at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, as Jesse Malin and Langhorne Slim perform a live midday concert on Friday.

Jesse Malin began to rise through the ranks of the punk rock underground at the young age of 12. He fronted the short-lived hardcore band Heart Attack and the glam punk band D Generation, as well as several other projects. Malin spent his time after these bands reshaping his sound to emulate his idols: Neil Young, Tom Waits, and Steve Earle. This kickstarted his career as a solo musician. To date, he has released 8 studio albums. He's associated with punk and rock musicians from all walks of life, from Bruce Springsteen to Green Day. Now, he'll stop by the World Cafe, touring in support of his newest album, New York Before the War, which is out now on One Little Indian / Velvet Elk Records.

Sean Scolnick, better known by his stagename Langhorne Smith, was born in Langhorne, PA (no surprise there). He began to gain a following as a musician through years of touring with the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players and appearing at Bonnaroo Festival. After those appearances, his music spread like wildfire, reaching the movie soundtrack for Waitress and touring with bands such as Cake, The Avett Brothers, The Violent Femmes, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. He even sang "God Bless America" at a Phillies game back in 2009! He will be welcomed back to Free at Noon in support of his latest record, The Spirit Moves, which is due out on August 7. It will be his 5th studio album.

Langorne Slim plays the Chameleon Club with David Wax Museum on July 14th and Union Transfer on September 16th, while Jesse Malin plays Boot and Saddle on July 25th. Catch both of them for Free at Noon next week by tuning in at 88.5 FM or RSVPing above.

Join us for the Free At Noon at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, as Warren Haynes featuring Railroad Earth performs a live midday concert on Friday.

Legendary and prolific musician Warren Haynes is gearing up to release what may be his most powerful statement to date: his third studio album, Ashes and Dust. This album represents a departure from his usual and a deep return to his roots. While the songs may sound new, some of them have been dear to Hayes for years. You'll hear arrangements that have been carried around for 20 to 30 years, hushed away from the public and saved for the right time.

Haynes has been lauded for his contributions to the Allman Brothers band and the surviving members of The Grateful Dead, as well as his own band, Gov't Mule. But on Ashes to Dust, Haynes has taken a compilation of songs that didn't quite fit with those bands and built a home for them. He blends his beautiful acoustic playing and honey-thick vocals with the backdrop of Americana.

Haynes will be supported by New Jersey-based roots/newgrass band Railroad Earth. The band is now going 14 years strong, with five critically acclaimed albums and one popular live album, Elko. With six band members, Railroad Earth’s music is arranged to the remarkable songs of frontman Todd Sheaffer with seamless musicianship. They've garnered a massive fanbase that takes advantage of the band's taping and photo policy, and you never know what you'll get when you show up to a Railroad Earth jam session. Warren Haynes ft. Railroad Earth will be back in the area for The Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA on Aug 13-16. For tickets visit here.
