The stand up comedian, actor, director, and writer was named Artistic Director of Act II last year and stars in its current production, the world premiere of his one-man show DIDN'T YOUR FATHER HAVE THIS TALK WITH YOU? based on his experiences teaching religion and sex ed to high school freshmen.
The Philadelphia City Paper has raved about him in the past.
Tony Braithwaite is a superlative comic and impressionist...Braithwaite is first among Philly funnymen...He's brilliant...Braithwaite is a Philadelphia treasure. Tourists should visit him, along with the Liberty Bell and Pat's King of Steaks. While Act II is the theatrical hub of the small town of Ambler, it's not community theater, but a professional theater company that produces original works and Broadway chestnuts (Man of La Mancha is coming next spring, tailored to Act II's budget by using puppets as well as actors). Check out their full season here.
Act II has developed a loyal local audience over its nearly 16 year history and hopes that Center City types will take the ride to the theater (it's less than a half hour away by this route and you can take SEPTA there).
In addition to runs of plays, Act II Playhouse offers nights and weekends devoted to comedy and song. Coming up is Joilet Harris channeling Nancy Wilson and Gladys Knight on October 6th and standup comedy on October 12th.
Since the one-off shows can be scheduled at almost any time, Tony Braithwaite recommends checking the Act II website regularly. For tickets, check here and you can listen to a feature with Tony from the XPN Morning Show below.
