Guitarist Aaron Moreland and harpist/vocalist Dustin Arbuckle first met at an open-mic in Wichita, Kansas back in 2001. The musicians both shared an affinity for Delta blues and quickly joined forces to form the eponymous duo Moreland & Arbuckle. Since their fateful meeting, the pair has released numerous records exploring American roots music, merging genres such as Delta blues, folk, rock, traditional country, and soul to create their unique sound. They have toured with legendary acts ZZ Top, George Thorogood, and Buddy Guy and have since added drummer Kendall Newby to the band.
Their latest record, 7 Cities, is a concept album built around the story of the Spanish conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado and his quest to discover Quivira, one of the mythical Seven Cities of Gold, in the Kansas plains, not far from where the band calls home. The album was released on May 17 in Europe and is set to drop on July 30 in the U.S. "It's definitely our best record ever," the band exclaims on their webpage. "We couldn't be more excited for all of you to soon hear it!" The band has a slew of tour dates coming up across the U.S. and Europe, but you can see the band for free at World Cafe Live for an exclusive Free at Noon Performance on August 2.
