A notable endorsement from Tom Waits, who describes Jesca's music "like going swimming in a lake at night"
Born and raised in California, Jesca Hoop plays a style of folk that encompasses
aspects of experimental music and rock, with wordplay that calls to mind images
of the Beat Poets of the 1950's. Hoop's second album, 2009's Hunting My Dress,
has received significant critical acclaim since its release. Aside from her sound, Jesca
Hoop’s rise to prominence is perhaps one of the most remarkable stories of today: As
a nanny for Tom Waits' children, she gained her musical understanding, with Waits
himself serving as her mentor. Now, after being tutored by Waits – who has described
her sound as "...like going swimming in a lake at night" - Hoop has crafted a sound full
of gorgeous harmonies, enchanting melodies, and extremely poetic lyricism. With such
an extraordinary sound, as well as Tom Waits' endorsement, it seems to be only a matter
of time before the world knows the beauty of Jesca Hoop.
Jesca has toured - both in the U.K. and in the U.S. - with Mark Knopfler, the Polyphonic Spree, Elbow, and Greg Laswel.
