Y-Rock on XPN FAQs

As of August 1st, 2006, Y100Rocks.com became part of WXPN (88.5 FM, member-supported public radio from the University of Pennsylvania). Y100Rocks.com changed its name to Y-Rock on XPN and will continue to operate as a full-time online radio station (at www.YRockOnXPN.org).

The FAQ explains more about the service.

Why did WXPN embrace Y100Rocks.com?
WXPN believes that a place exists for alternative, modern and indie rock on their airwaves. Their mission is to connect artists with music fans. When Y100 went off the air more than a year ago, they saw it as a great loss to the hundreds of thousands of displaced listeners left behind in the Philadelphia area and to artists who no longer can get airplay in the market.

Is WXPN changing formats?
No. WXPN is not changing its format. Y-Rock on XPN is a distinct radio service that includes the wide range of alternative music for which Y100Rocks.com has been known.

How will Y-Rock on XPN be different from Y100Rocks.com?
Musically it will be the similar. But with the backing of WXPN, Y-Rock on XPN will have far better production facilities and can stream the service at a much higher quality.

How will I will I listen to the Y-Rock on XPN stream?
The stream is available at www.YRockOnXPN.org. The stream is also accessible at www.xpn.org. The stream will continue to be accessible via iTunes.

Will Sonic Sessions continue?
Yes. In fact, with the resources of WXPN, we will have greater access to artists for Sonic Sessions, interviews, radio takeovers, meet & greets and things of that nature.

Does XPN currently play any alternative rock and will that increase or decrease in the traditional XPN program hours?
XPN plays many genres of music and alternative is one of them. It will not intentionally either increase or decrease the amount of alternative/modern and indie rock played.
