2008-08-13 WXPN Wins Radio & Records Awards Tri-fecta
Awarded Station of the Year, Staff Also Recognized as Triple A Radio Leaders
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. August 12, 2008 -- WXPN, the nationally recognized leader in Triple A (adult album alternative) music and a non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, and two of its station personnel won top honors at the annual Radio & Records Triple A Industry Achievement Awards in Boulder, CO last weekend.
WXPN won all three of its nominations, which included "Station of the Year: Markets 1-50 (Non-commercial)," an award WXPN won last year as well. WXPN staff member Bruce Warren won the award for "Program Director of the Year" and first-time nominee Jim McGuinn won for "Personality of the Year." The last time the station was this successful was in 2002 when it received four awards, Station of the Year, Programmer, Personality and Music Director. Individual nominees were selected from commercial and non-commercial stations throughout the country.
"We're extremely proud and happy that we have won these coveted awards," said Roger LaMay, WXPN General Manager. "It is always gratifying when your industry recognizes your achievements. It's an honor to have our programming philosophy, artist selection and unfailing commitment to our listeners be so well rewarded."
The Radio & Records Industry Achievement Awards have honored the best in the Triple A industry since 1998. Winners were selected by radio and record company executives as well as artist management companies throughout the nation.
