WXPN Hosts The Boss’ Birthday Bash featuring the XPN Local Phill-E Street Band
Special concert in celebration of Bruce Springsteen’s 60th birthday to air live on WXPN


 

Philadelphia, Pa. Today WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) music and a noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, announced that it will broadcast live its sold out event, The Boss’ Birthday Bash, in celebration of Bruce Springsteen’s 60th birthday on September 23 from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. This concert, hosted by XPN Host Helen Leicht, will feature live performances from XPN Local Artists, dubbed the Phill-E Street Band for this occasion, who will play the entire Born to Run album as well as other surprises.

Confirmed artists to play Born to Run include Dan May, Tom Hamilton’s American Babies, Ben Arnold Band, Missing Palmer West, Chris Kasper, James Maddock, Matt Santry, John Grecia, Tommy Joyner, Tom Laskas, Jon Thompson and Cynthia Mason. Artists scheduled to perform other Springsteen favorites include Phil Roy, John Train featuring Mike Brenner, East Hundred, Scot Sax, The Great Unknown, The Rigbees, Theotis Joe and Sharon Little.

“I’m a huge Springsteen fan and couldn’t be more excited for this landmark event. Bruce is a quintessential part of the XPN community and has always been dedicated to the city of Philadelphia and its music scene,” said Leicht. “I’ve been hosting the XPN Local Hour and our Local pick of the day for five years, and this concert is another example of our commitment to showcasing local artists.”

Beginning September 21, recordings of the songs will be available for streaming on the XPN website for a period of one month. In addition, the XPN website will feature a message board where Springsteen fans can post Happy Birthday messages for The Boss.

To further commemorate Springsteen’s birthday, XPN will air Bruce requests and covers from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on September 23. Listeners can call 1-800-565-WXPN (9976) to request their favorite Springsteen songs.
