World Cafe Fiesta And Live Broadcasts Will Feature East LA’s La Santa Cecilia
PHILADELPHIA - WXPN will present the free World Cafe Fiesta and Live Broadcast with East LA's La Santa Cecilia, starting at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29 at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia (doors open at 7 p.m.). This free concert and live broadcast will further connect concertgoers and listeners with Latin Roots, the bi-weekly series heard on the syndicated World Cafe radio program.
Noted East Los Angeles-based, Mexican-American band La Santa Cecilia, whose name honors the patron saint of music, Saint Cecilia, exemplifies a creative hybrid of Latin culture, rock and world music. The band draws inspiration from all over the world and utilizes Pan-American rhythms including cumbia, bossa nova, rumba, bolero, tango, jazz, rock and klezmer music.
"I saw La Santa Cecilia at the Latin Alternative Music Conference two years ago and immediately texted my colleagues that I had seen the Latin Alabama Shakes," said World Cafe host David Dye. "Not the same style, but La Santa Cecilia's lead singer La Marisoul is as charismatic as Brittany Howard and so much fun. Elvis Costello is a big fan too, singing with her in concert and on his new album Wise Up Ghost."
In Latin Roots, Dye explores the vast variety of music from Spanish-speaking countries and people, from cumbia, mambo and son to Latin rock, reggaeton, and more. The series airs every other Thursday during the second hour of the World Cafe program and is made possible by a grant from the Wyncote Foundation. World Cafe is produced by WXPN and distributed nationwide by NPR.
