Big Easy Express and Under African Skies to kick off and close fest

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. April 3, 2012- The opening and closing films for Philadelphia's first festival solely dedicated to movies about music are ready to rock! WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Philadelphia Film Society today announced that Big Easy Express will open the XPN Music Film Festival on Thursday, April 26. The film documents Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show and Mumford & Sons' 2011 tour. Under African Skies is a documentary film that follows Paul Simon's journey back to South Africa to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Graceland. It will close the festival on Sunday, April 29.

WXPN Features The Lumineers as the XPN Artist To Watch for April

PHILADELPHIA, PA - April 2, 2012 - WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names The Lumineers as its April Artist To Watch. WXPN Music Director and Host Dan Reed presented the first of the month's on-air segments today, April 2, in the 4 p.m. hour.

After leaving the hustle and bustle of New York City for Denver, front-men Wesley Shultz and Jeremiah Fraites found a third member in cellist Neyla Pekarek and began playing at the basement club Meadowlark for a lively audience. The Lumineers have since created a name for themselves with their eclectic mix of melodic stomp-and-clap acoustic rock, classic pop, and front-porch indie folk music all rolled into one intriguing sound.

PHILADELPHIA Pa. Philadelphia's only film festival dedicated to music is coming soon to theaters near you! WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Philadelphia Film Society today announced that the XPN Music Film Festival produced by the Philadelphia Film Society will run from Thursday, April 26 to Sunday, April 29. The initial slate features more than 10 films including rockumentaries, biopics about musicians and movies that are defined by great soundtracks.

WXPN will takeover the SXSW Radio Day Stage and broadcast live performances by The Lumineers, Delta Spirit and Father John Misty. In addition, WXPN and The Key have partnered with Bands In The Backyard for a showcase in Austin that will feature a handful of Philly bands and non-local acts.
