Join us for the Free At Noon at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, as Typhoon performs a live midday concert on Friday.
Typhoon, the 12-piece supergroup from Portland, Oregon, joins us for a live Friday concert next Free at Noon. Getting their big break with a performance on “Late Show with David Letterman” in 2011, Typhoon has quickly grown in popularity due to their appropriate and experimentally big-band sound complete with sporadic interjections of harmonization, brass and piano. Since their initial appearance, they've opened for indie rock bands Explosions in the Sky and The Decembrists.
The band has a total of four albums and two EPs to their name, along with their latest release, “White Lighter” recorded by the band on an Oregonian farm during the summer of 2012. After lead singer Kyle Morton underwent severe ailment before the recording, he channeled his suffering through the music he made with his 11 bandmates, resulting in lyrics confronting life and death. However, some fans might not even be able to recognize the deep lyrics disguised by the band’s upbeat sound.
Watch Typhoon rock out at XPN’s Free at Noon and open for indie-rock band Okkervil River at the Union Transfer that night at 7:30 p.m. Ticket Information Available
