Originally from Michigan, the singer, songwriter and guitarist has an angelic falsetto, and mixes synth pop, glam and rock. BØRNS was born Garrett Borns and moved to LA last year to take up his career, living in a tree house in the canyons of Los Angeles.
British indie soul musician Kindness (Adam Bainbridge) recently released his highly anticipated second album Otherness. The album follows his critically acclaimed 2012 debut LP World, You Need a Change of Mind. Now based in Geneva, Bainbridge has ties to Philly. In May 2007, he studied at The Philadelphia Institute for Advanced Study, where he was the recipient of the Eric James Johnson Memorial Fellowship, and created an album, Live In Philly. On one of the songs for the project, he collaborated with Kurt Vile.
Philly’s Son Little is the new musical project from Aaron Livingston. He’s collaborated with The Roots and RJD2, and his song “The River” was one of our recent Gotta Hear Songs of The Week. John Vettese called it “a barn-burning bootstomp jam, an utterly catchy song that’s a little bit electronic, a little bit soul, a little bit blues.”
Fly Golden Eagle is fronted by Ben Trimble, originally from Detroit, who made his way to Nashville to attend college. When he got there he settled into a creative community of musicians anchored around producer and recording studio owner Andrija Tokic’s Bomb Shelter, the East Nashville epicenter of many things musically cool: Alabama Shakes, Hurray For the Riff Raff, Caitlin Rose, The Ettes, and many others have recorded their records here. Trimble recorded the Alabama Shakes debut and has toured, opening for the Shakes.
September’s Artist To Watch is the Milwaukee, Wisconsin band Field Report. On October 7th, the band is releasing their sophomore album, Marigolden. This week the band’s single, “Home (Leave The Lights On)” is our Gotta Hear Song of the Week. You can listen to it here
