Wheat - Per Second, Per Second, Per Second - Sony/Aware Records

Hailing from Taunton, Massacheusetts – South of Boston – the three piece band Wheat formed in 1997 and released their first two albums on the Chicago-based independent label Sugarfree. Wheat is made up of singer/guitarist Scott Levesque, drummer Brendan Harney and guitarist Ricky Brennan.

If you’re a fan of intelligent, nuanced pop-rock like that of Fountains of Wayne, Dada, Wilco, and Flaming Lips, then this is an album you must have in your collection. At the heart of these songs are insidious, warm melodies, crafty arrangements and shiny musical hooks.

Sharing production chores with Wheat on their major label debut are two of pop music’s most inventive and original producers, John Fields and Dave Fridmann. Fridmann, a member of Mercury Rev is known for his work with the Flaming Lips. Together with the band they sculpt uniquely lush pop songs with experimental twists and turns. Highlights include “Breathe,” “Some Days,” “Life Still Applies,” and the first single, “I Met A Girl.”
