Amos Lee - Supply & Demand - Blue Note

Blessed with a wonderful voice and a fine storytelling style, Philly's own Amos Lee seems poised to take his craft to a wider audience. His sophomore album - Supply & Demand - will most certainly help him get there.

The arrangements on this album are more fleshed-out, and the addition of more instrumentation and more tempo will be welcomed by many. He's a crooner - for sure - but Lee is also capable of getting a song into a seductive groove and keeping it there. There's a lot to enjoy here, and there's no telling just how good of a songwriter Lee will end up becoming. Standouts include the first single "Shout Out Loud", the gospel-esque "Skipping Stone", the title track and the poignant "Freedom".

Amos Lee is an artist who takes his craft seriously. He could probably get by with that unique, soulful voice alone, but he seems determined to write the great American pop song as well. He has the talent to deliver it, too. Supply & Demand is going to end up on a lot of people's "best of" lists, and for good reason, but it's the potential that this album shows that has me most intrigued.
