Raphael Saadiq at World Cafe Live

Raphael Saadiq joins us for the XPN Free at Noon show at World Cafe Live.
A co-production of WXPN and NPR Music.

Raphael Saadiq Raphael Saadiq delivers some of the finest neo soul around on his new record, The Way I See It. Former lead vocalist of the New Jack Swing trio Tony! Toni! Tone!, Saadiq has produced for artists including John Legend and Joss Stone, and collaborated with the likes of Whitney Houston, D'Angelo, and The Roots. The Way I See It is standout within the recent '60s soul resurgence.

Since a young age Raphael Saadiq was musically inclined: playing the bass, singing in professional gospel groups, and performing onstage for his church and school. Steeped in a wide range of musical knowledge and experience with classical music, spirituals, and jazz, Saadiq is credited with leaving a remarkable old-school footprint in the musical world and often referred to as a leader of the neo-soul movement due to his 20 years of experience in the R&B scene. His latest release has a nostalgic, foot-tapping feel. Drawing inspiration from The Temptations and a trip to the Bahamas, Saadiq attributes the quintessentially retro feel of this latest effort to his long-time love for soul as well as his recent travels.

The Way I See It was produced in four months and hit the shelves mid-September, 2008.
