In addition to music, award-winning reggae and hip-hop artist John Forté is involved in film, prose, and humanitarian work. Classically trained in violin, Forté uses his musical knowledge and rap sensibilities to masterfully blend savvy rhythms and adroit melodies, turning his life experiences into a life of music and introspection to give his music a been-there, learned-that feel. His second solo album, I, John, is a forceful, flowing examination of self, friends, motives, and life. Currently at work on his next album, Forté released a cover of Kanye West's "Homecoming" in early 2009, and now divides his time between teaching at City College of New York, writing for news website The Daily Beast, and working with children of incarcerated parents.
