Ollabelle - Ollabelle (DMZ/Columbia)

Ollabelle is a six piece New York based band that draws on gospel, blues, R&B, folk, rock and jazz. Formed as a side project of singer-songwriters and musicians from New York that played informally at a Sunday night gospel show at a club, 9C, located in the East Village, the band was signed by T-Bone Burnett to his label, DNZ records.

Fronted by lead vocalist Amy Helm (her dad is Levon Helm of The Band), the band combines original songs with traditional gospel and blues covers. Additional members of the band include bassist Byron Isaacs, dummer Tony Leone, singer/guitarist Fiona McBain, keyboardist Glenn Patshca, and guitarist/producer and multi-instrumentalist Jimi Zhivago.

Named for country singer Ola Belle Reed, Ollabelle’s debut is a soulful and honest recasting of past musical traditions played with confidence. For fans of The Staple Singers, Ry Cooder, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Norah Jones, even “Exile On Main Street”-era Rolling Stones, highlights include “Soul Of A Man,” “Get Back Temptation,” “Jesus On The Mainline,” and “Elijah Rock.” Uplifting and inspirational, Ollabelle’s debut is tasty soul food for the mind, the heart, and the booty.
