Rachael Yamagata - Elephants… Teeth Sinking Into Heart (Warner Bros.)A full four years after her debut album Happenstance and her endlessly catchy song "Worn Me Down" Rachael Yamagata is back with a thoroughly ambitious project she calls Elephants... Teeth Sinking Into Heart. The two disc set is roughly divided in half, with the Elephants disc being the singer/songwriter side of Yamagata, and Teeth Sinking Into Heart providing us with a little indie-rock goodness. Calling on name producers Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley) and John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews) to help, Yamagata proves herself to be a careful, thoughtful songwriter throughout, and one who doesn't mind putting in the work to insure that every song has a little something extra for you to remember. "Sidedish Friend" - the tune we've been featuring here on XPN - wears very well with repeated listens, and really showcases her ability to combine attitude with intelligence, no easy feat. She has a great voice, too, one that easily fits with both sides of these discs. Written by Dan Reed, Music Director and Host Click here to see the complete list of WXPN Featured Albums. |
