Placeholder calls it a day; playing farewell show in Lancaster on 12/27

Lancaster punk outfit Placeholder just announced its decision to disband after three years, two LPs, an EP, two splits, two vans “and a score of rental cars.” In a Facebook posting yesterday afternoon, frontman Brandon Gepfer elaborated on his feelings about calling it a day.

We started this band after I graduated college and never thought we’d ever have a record out or play anywhere outside of Pennsylvania. It’s seriously been a trip playing shows across the country for a few years. I’m eternally thankful to all of our friends that spent money to release our music on their labels and I don’t know what our impact has been on anyone but, I just want to say thanks if it has meant something to you. Our split with Sleeping Weather will still be released on Escapist Records and there is one song you haven’t heard yet (it’s good). We will be playing our final show on December 27, 2014 in Lancaster, PA. More details to follow. Thanks for letting me feel cool for 20 minutes a night.

I only got to see this band once – they played the Brooklyn Vegan showcase at SXSW back in March – and their full-throttle set was, as I said at the time, far too brief. The band might not have had the most accessible sound, depending on what release you were listening to, but as performers they were totally compelling. They tagged me on Twitter Saturday night, asking me to come out to their Boot and Saddle show opening for Grade; I could not make it, I had work stuff going on that night, and now I’m even more bummed that I missed the show.
