WXPN Launches Weekly One Hour Philly Local Show

Helen Leicht will host new program spotlighting local talent every Tuesday evening at 9pm.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - WXPN (88.5 FM), the noncommercial public radio station from the University of Pennsylvania, captures the growing breadth and depth of Philadelphia's music scene with a new weekly one-hour show entitled Philly Local. Hosted by longtime Philadelphia deejay Helen Leicht, Philly Local premieres Tuesday, March 15 at 9pm.

Leicht has long supported local talent in Philadelphia. For the past five years, she's made the "XPN Philly Local Pick of the Day" a daily segment in the one o'clock hour of her mid-day show. She also handpicked the 20 tracks selected for the recently released CD "WXPN Philly Local - Right On Track" CD.

"This is a really exciting time for the Philadelphia music scene," said Leicht. "Musicians and songwriters are coming together as a community and generating a surge of musical creativity that's just fantastic. I can't wait to expose listeners to what's happening in this town."

During the first week's show, Leicht will feature Amos Lee, Mutlu, and Birdie Busch recorded live at this month's WXPN Member Party and new music from Seth Kallen, Bridges and a Bottle, The Capital Years, and more.

WXPN 88.5 FM is the non-commercial, member-supported radio service of the University of Pennsylvania and the premier source for an eclectic and inspiring mix of music including rock, blues, roots, and folk. WXPN produces the nationally syndicated World Cafe., public radio's most popular program of popular music hosted by David Dye, and the Peabody Award winning Kids Corner hosted by Kathy O'Connell. WXPN serves the greater Philadelphia area at 88.5 FM, the Lehigh Valley at 104.9, Worton/Baltimore at 90.5 FM, and Harrisburg at 88.1 FM. It is also available via online streaming at www.xpn.org.
