88.5 WXPN Receives Top Honors From Respected Music Industry Trade Publication

PHILADELPHIA, PA - 88.5 WXPN, the member-supported radio station of the University of Pennsylvania, has once again won accolades from industry peers. At a music industry awards ceremony hosted by the radio trade publication Radio & Records, WXPN won Non-Commercial Triple A Station of the Year for the third consecutive year, while assistant general manager for programming, Bruce Warren, took home the award for Program Director of the Year, a category that included nominations from commercial radio stations.

"I am thrilled the station is again recognized as the Non-Commercial Triple A Station of the Year and am humbled to win Program Director of the Year award," said Warren. "It's been an amazing year for the station - we moved into new studios, have partnered with NPR on syndication of our national show World Cafe., and have launched a host of new initiatives to better serve listeners and the artists we play. To be recognized by our industry like this is the icing on the cake."

The awards process began during the spring when nominations were submitted in May of 2005. Ballots were then sent to Radio & Records' Triple A subscribers, a collection of music industry decision-makers, who voted in each of the award categories. The final winners were announced at an Awards Luncheon at the Triple A Summit, a music industry conference, held in Boulder, Colorado last weekend. In addition to the two awards WXPN won at the conference, David Dye, host of the nationally syndicated show World Cafe., was nominated for "Personality of the Year" and Dan Reed for "Music Director of the Year."

"I am proud to work with so many talented and dedicated people," said Roger LaMay, general manager for WXPN. "The fact that both Bruce and the station have dominated their respective categories for years at the R&R Awards is testament to the service they've been delivering to XPN members over the years."
