Local Musician Jim Boggia Receives Coveted "WXPN Artist to Watch" Title In May

WXPN puts spotlight on Philly Local fave starting May 2.

PHILADELPHIA, PA WXPN, the non-commercial radio station from the University of Pennsylvania, names Jim Boggia its May pick for Artist To Watch. On Monday, May 2 in the four o'clock hour, host David Dye will present the first of the month's daily on-air segments featuring this long-time Philly Local.

Being this month's WXPN Artist To Watch coincides with Boggia's second solo release "Safe In Sound" due in stores on May 3. To celebrate, there will be CD Release Parties in both Philadelphia (World Cafe Live at 3025 Walnut on May 4th) and in New York City (Joe's Pub at 425 Lafayette Street on May 10th).

WXPN has long recognized the talent of Jim Boggia and recently featured him on the station's first compilation of local talent titled "XPN Philly Local: Right On Track." Boggia was one of the first local artists to sign on for WXPN Musicians On Call program, volunteering to perform at the bedsides of patients in local area hospitals.

"Jim Boggia is one of the most talented musicians, singers, songwriters - not just on the local scene but in the country!" said midday host and Philly Local maven Helen Leicht. "It's wonderful to know we have Jim Boggia out representing Philadelphia and it can only help support the other musicians from our area."

We're excited to choose Jim as our Artist To Watch for May. He's been a significant part of the Philly music scene," said Bruce Warren, assistant general manager for programming. "From his work with Four Way Street to his solo projects and his work as special assistant sideman on a number of projects, he's a talented artist and great songwriter. Jim's new album is a smart, thinking-person's rock record that shows off his excellent songwriting skills and musicianship."

The XPN Artists To Watch series reflects WXPN's commitment to nurturing fresh, new talent and exposing listeners to the best new music. Each month, the XPN Artists To Watch series spotlights a different up-and-coming performer who has produced an album or body of work that demonstrates outstanding vision, creativity and songwriting ability. Month-long on-air promotion is combined with online features to help audiences discover and connect with each artist.
