WXPN Partners with Area Retailers to Offer Its New Philly Local CD Compilation in Support of WXPN Musicians On Call

Limited copies of “XPN Philly Local-Right On Track” are now for sale online and at select retail stores. Proceeds benefit WXPN Musicians On Call.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
— WXPN (88.5 FM), the noncommercial public radio station from the University of Pennsylvania, announced that it is making its recent CD release “XPN Philly Local – Right On Track” available online at WorldCafeCDs.com and at area retailers for $15 starting March 29. Retailers have agreed to donate 100% of the proceeds to WXPN Musicians On Call.

WXPN has long been committed to nurturing local talent. For the past five years, Host Helen Leicht has featured a different local musician during her midday show. Earlier this month, Helen launched a weekly Philly Local show on Tuesday evenings at 9pm. “XPN Philly Local – Right On Track” is the station’s first compilation of local artists. It features 20 tracks with selections from Amos Lee, Ben Arnold, Grey Eye Glances, Phil Roy, Lauren Hart, Jim Boggia, Stargazer Lily, Townhall, The Blue Method, Mutlu, JF Maher, John Flynn, Chinua Hawk, Beaucoup Blue, Aderbat, Birdie Busch, Kate Gaffney, Lotus, Mojo Stu, and Maggi, Pierce & EJ.

Proceeds from the sale of the CD will benefit WXPN Musicians On Call, a program that delivers the healing power of music through weekly bedside performance programs in healthcare facilities. WXPN launched the program in October 2004 in two area hospitals. Funds are needed to maintain and expand the program to more healthcare facilities in the greater Philadelphia region including hospices and nursing homes.

“Musicians in Philadelphia are amazing. Not only are they talented, but they’re also eager to lend their gift to others as they do week in and week out for WXPN Musicians On Call,” said Leicht. “I encourage music fans everywhere to pick up a copy of ‘XPN Philly Local – Right On Track.’ Not only will they support a great cause, they’ll also be introduced to 20 of the finest musicians I’ve had ever had the privilege to know.”
