WXPN Adds Weekly “Blues File” to Podcast Offerings

PHILADELPHIA, PA February 9, 2006 – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, will offer weekly podcasts of its “Blues File” hosted and produced by WXPN Blues Show host Jonny Meister. A newly released podcast will be available each Friday from both the WXPN podcast web page and iTunes. The first podcast will be available February 10 and features a commentary on the Lifetime Achievement Award that delta bluesman Robert Johnson received at the GRAMMY Awards.

The Blues File is a 3-4 minute segment that taps into Meister’s encyclopedic knowledge of the genre. It offers blues-related news, artists profiles and new releases of note. Since mid-2004, the Blues File has been a weekly feature on the XPN Morning Show with Michaela Majoun.

WXPN launched its first weekly podcast offering last September with “World Cafe® Words and Music” culled from the stations flagship program World Cafe and available through the NPR podcast directory. Since then more than 83,000 have podcast feeds have been delivered. WXPN also offers podcasts of artist interviews and performances featured in the weekly “World Cafe Next” line up. Podcasts of exclusive commentary from artists about the impact of their favorite album had on their craft are also available in the series “Musicians On The Record.”

WXPN 88.5 FM, the nationally recognized leader in Triple A radio and the premier guide for discovering new and significant artists in rock, blues, roots, and folk, is the non-commercial, member-supported radio service of the University of Pennsylvania.
