WXPN Artist To Watch For July: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

PHILADELPHIA, PA – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, has selected Grace Potter and the Nocturnals as the XPN Artist To Watch for July. Bruce Warren, WXPN’s assistant general manager for programming, will present the first of the month’s on-air segments focusing on this soulful quartet on Monday, July 3rd in the four o’clock hour.

“Grace and the Nocturnals have been cooking up some good stuff for a couple years and this lady can sing,” said Warren. “She's got a soulful, bluesy edge to her voice and her extremely talented band members are a well oiled team.”

“The band's blend of talent and hard work has earned them a loyal and rapidly expanding audience around the country,” said Dan Reed, WXPN music director. “She put on a tremendous performance at Bonarroo and is gaining a rabid following in jam band circles.”

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are currently touring in support of their latest release Nothing But The Water. They wowed WXPN listeners with a live performance on June 2nd when they appeared on the station’s Free At Noon concert series. Next month, they will open on the River Stage at the WXPN All About The Music Festival presented by Subaru on Friday, July 21.

“The band's blend of blues, soul, and rock n' roll has a warm and genuine feel of 60's and 70's nostalgia yet sounds very much in sync with the current music times,” said Warren. “Grace Potter is tomorrow's classic rock today.”

The XPN Artists To Watch series reflects WXPN’s commitment to nurturing fresh, new talent and exposing listeners to the best new music. Each month, the XPN Artists To Watch series spotlights a different up-and-coming performer who has produced an album or body of work that demonstrates outstanding vision, creativity and songwriting ability. Month-long on-air promotion is combined with online features to help audiences discover each artist.
