WXPN's 'The Key' Launches Audio Music Stream 'Songs In The Key Of Philly' Highlights Music from the 50s to Today.

Philadelphia, Pa. – November 17, 2010 - Philly is a town with a rich musical history. From Frankie Avalon and John Coltrane, to The Roots and John Legend, all of these music icons have called Philadelphia home. To celebrate this heritage, The Key, WXPN's online source for discovering Philly's best local music and a member of NPR's ARGO Network, is launching an audio stream called "Songs In The Key Of Philly" on November 22.

"Songs In The Key Of Philly" will feature eight hours of music from Philadelphia musicians and songs about the City of Brotherly Love from the 50s to today. Artists such as The Hooters, Patti LaBelle, Chubby Checker, Teddy Pendergrass, Dr. Dog, Jill Scott, Sun Ra and more will comprise the playlist which can be streamed online at any time.

"From rock to R&B, from punk rock to hip-hop, from jazz to singer-songwriters, there is so much great music from Philly and we're proud to show off our musical heritage," said Bruce Warren, WXPN program director. "Now Philly music fans can read all about what's happening in the local music scene and listen to songs from local bands and artists at the same time."

Also on November 22, WXPN will broadcast "Songs In The Key Of Philly" Day from 6 a.m. -10 p.m. and on Y Rock On XPN from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. This special day of all Philadelphia music and programming will feature Gamble & Huff and Hall & Oates episodes of WORLD CAFE® from 2 – 4 p.m., a two-hour edition of Jerry Blavat's "Rock & Roll Rhythm & Blues Express" which looks back at the music and the memories of the early days of Philly music from American Bandstand to The Sound of Philadelphia at 6 p.m. and an all-Philly "Land Of The Lost" with Robert Drake broadcast from 8 – 10 p.m.
