WXPN Celebrates 5th Anniversary of Its “Free At Noon” Concerts Anniversary concert features performance by singer-songwriter Citizen Cope

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, will host a special XPN Free At Noon 5th Anniversary Concert on Friday, February 19 at World Cafe Live. The sold-out concert will feature a performance by singer-songwriter Citizen Cope and will be broadcast live at 12 noon over WXPN-FM and streamed at www.XPN.org and www.NPRMusic.org. Audience members for the 5th Anniversary Concert will each receive a Live @ the World Cafe CD to commemorate the event.

Since 2005, WXPN has brought free, live music to its members each week through the XPN Free At Noon (FAN) concert series. Award-winning artists such as Adele, John Legend, Tori Amos and Ryan Bingham among many others have graced the FAN concert stage and had their lunchtime performances aired live over WXPN. More than 65,000 people have attended the FAN concert series over the past five years, and countless more have tuned in to hear the eclectic performances which are also broadcast over New York’s WBFO-FM and EXIT 97.7 and streamed at www.KUT.org and www.VPR.net.

“The XPN Free At Noon concert series is very special and is just one of the ways we give back to our members” said WXPN General Manager Roger LaMay. “Where else can you see great, live music for free every week? We’re thrilled to be able to provide this perk to our members and look forward to sharing many more XPN Free At Noon concerts to come.”

Citizen Cope first caught the eye of the music world in the mid ‘90s with his contributions to rap albums. Since his solo debut in 1992, Citizen Cope’s blend of hip-hop beats, quiet piano melodies, a hint of pop and ever-present blues have served him well in every release. His new album, The Rainwater LP, is due out this March on his own label.
