WXPN Features Givers as the XPN Artist To Watch for June

PHILADELPHIA, PA – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names Givers as its June Artist To Watch. WXPN Music Director and Host Dan Reed presented the first of the month’s on-air segments on, June 1, in the 4 p.m. hour.

This quintet from Lafayette, Lousiana combines many rhythmic elements with indie rock for a unique hybrid sound. Happily merging their love of afro-beat, folk, experimental and electronic music, Givers has been charming music lovers with their feel-good, psychedelic sound since 2009. While almost all members of this group are multi-instrumentalists, their sound remains clear and cleverly crafted. As the opening act for the Dirty Projectors at a local Louisiana show, this dance-inducing, exotic group took to the stage with painted faces and a fun filled polyrhythmic style—a performance so impressive that the Dirty Projectors asked them to join their 2009 South and East Coast tour. Since then, Givers have become stand out darlings, and they released their first full-length album, In Light on Glassnote Records on June 7. They recently captivated the audience at WXPN’s own Non Comm 2011 and will continue to do so while on tour this summer including a stop at WXPN’s music festival July 22 – 24.

“Givers are a band that truly revels in the creative process,” says Dan Reed, Music Director for WXPN, “They give the sense that they absolutely LOVE to make music. Their live shows are extraordinary, and their songs are memorable and deep at the same time.”
