WXPN’s ‘The Key’ Launches Monthly Video Series to Highlight Local Musicians The Key Studio Video Sessions Made Possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation

Philadelphia, Pa. The Key (http://thekey.xpn.org), WXPN’s online source for discovering Philly’s best local music and a member of NPR’s ARGO Network, today launched a monthly online video series called The Key Studio Video Sessions to highlight local musicians. The series kicks off with a video showcasing Sisters 3, a Downingtown PA-based indie/folk trio. Future videos in the series will be released on the second Wednesday of each month.

Funding for The Key Studio Video Sessions came from a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its Knight Arts Challenge. The grant is also being used to fund the Key Studio Sessions, a weekly in-house interview and recording session at the WXPN studios with artists from the greater Philadelphia region, and Key Events which will be held on a quarterly basis. Recordings from the Key Studio Sessions are available for download each week through The Key website.

“This grant helps us extend our mission to support local artists and connect them with new audiences,” said Bruce Warren, WXPN program director. “The Key Studio Video Sessions are a great way to not only showcase our weekly Key Studio Sessions, but also provide local artists with a promotional video they can use to market their music.”

The first Key Event is scheduled for September 12 at World Cafe Live and will feature live performances by Hezekiah Jones & Andrew Lipke, Work Drugs and Black Landlord. All Key Events are free and open to the public with online registration here: http://xpn.org/events/first-key-event.

"Philadelphia's music scene is legendary, and we are excited about the opportunity to help bring today’s best artists to the community," said Dennis Scholl, Knight Foundation's vice president/arts.
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation's Knight Arts Challenge is a $9 million initiative supporting innovative projects that inspire and enrich Philadelphia's communities.

The Key is a content-rich source for Philly music and source of original local music content. Highlighting the best music from the greater Philadelphia area through exclusive interviews, concert previews, album reviews, MP3s, news, studio sessions and more, The Key covers a broad variety of music, including indie rock, DJ culture, folk, hip-hop, blues and rock.
