WXPN Features Polica as the XPN Artist To Watch for July

PHILADELPHIA, PA - WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names Polica as its July Artist To Watch. WXPN Music Director and Host Dan Reed presented the first of the month's on-air segments today, July 2, in the 4 p.m. hour.

This Minnesota band features just two drummers, a bass, and the heavily manipulated voice of Channy Leaneagh. With this eclectic mix of media, it would be nearly impossible for Polica to not have an intriguing and interesting sound. Using elements from electronic, rock, R&B, and psychedelic styles, this group has a groove that ebbs and flows from musical comfort zones to new frontiers in listening. Their debut album, Give You The Ghost, featuring singles "Lay Your Cards Out" and "Amongster," has been met with acclaim and growing popularity. Polica played Kung Fu Necktie back in March, was featured on World Cafe with David Dye, played a show at Johnny Brenda's, and also performed at WXPN's Non-Commvention in May. The group will be back for a repeat performance at Union Transfer on October 3rd.

"Perhaps the biggest plus for Polica is that they appeal on such a variety of musical levels and are an incredible live band. You can't discount them as simply an 'electronic' band," says Mike Vasilikos, Assistant Music Director for WXPN. "Electronica plays a part on Give You The Ghost, but these songs take tangents into worlds of R&B, rock and psychedelic. As a listener you find areas of comfort on this album, yet all the while you find your curiosity challenged. `Give You The Ghost' really is a remarkable start for a band that already is fast out of the gate."
