XPN has always been "more than a radio station." The Campaign for the Music is expanding XPN’s ability to serve you, our listeners, key underserved audiences, and of course, the artists.
XPN’s long-standing commitment to the musicians in our back yard – Philadelphia, Central PA, and the other communities in which we broadcast – has received a significant boost from TheKey.XPN.org, our new suite of web-based resources highlighting the local music scene. Since we created the website in 2010 as part of an NPR initiative to develop local programming, we’ve expanded the content tremendously. The website continues to grow in popularity, and has helped to expand our community of listeners and artists. Future directions include dedicated coverage for diverse genres.
Serving those who cannot attend live music events, this beautiful program brings live music to the bedsides of hospitalized children and adults. Today we’re proud to serve six local hospitals, and WXPN Musicians On Call has made a difference in the lives of more than 50,000 patients and their families. We’ve also implemented Project Playback, a program where hospital patients can create and record songs with a local artist. Check out the recordings from Scot Sax and patients at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. Support for the Campaign will sustain the Musicians On Call program and allow us to serve more facilities over time.
