August 23, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, Dawes talk about their latest album Stories Don’t End. The LA based group has become known for a sound that harkens back to Laurel Canyon in the 70s, but with Stories Don’t End singer Taylor Goldsmith had hoped fans would hear a wider field of influences.
August 16, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, Steve Martin and Edie Brickell join host David Dye. Steve Martin was already selling out arenas and earning platinum records in the 1970s, thanks to his talents as a comedian.
August 14, 2013 - Tom Jones started his enviable career as a hit maker with 1965’s “It’s Not Unusual.” Now, decades later, he has turned to well respected producer Ethan Johns to help craft some of his best work. For their second effort together, Tom Jones and Ethan Johns moved to contemporary songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits.
August 7, 2013 - Phoenix garnered worldwide fame for their 2009 album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix thanks to catchy high energy songs like “1901” and “Lisztomania.” Now they have returned with the follow up Bankrupt!
July 31, 2013 - Jim James joins host David Dye in the studio. Jim James has led the Louisville based band My Morning Jacket since the late 90s. The group’s reputation as live performers is unparalleled and as writers they have been quite prolific.
July 24, 2013 - Iron & Wine joins host David Dye in the studio. Sam Beam went from bedroom recording hobbyist to professional musician in 2002 when Sub Pop Records decided to release demos he had sent label head Jonathan Poneman.
July 17, 2013 - Vocal acrobat Bobby McFerrin was almost inescapable with his catchy and lighthearted 1988 hit “Don’t Worry Be Happy”. Over his nearly 4 decade long career, he has collaborated with numerous virtuoso musicians like Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and YoYo Ma.
July 10, 2013 - In 2004 KT Tunstall had a career break through when she performed her song “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” on the British TV show Later… with Jools Holland. Since that time she has continued to find success with her music, but the last few years have been rough in terms of her personal life.
July 3, 2013 - Patty Griffin joins host David Dye on the stage of World Cafe Live. Patty Griffin released her debut in 1996 and since that time she has become a favorite of both music fans and musicians. Her songs have been covered by Emmylou Harris, the Dixie Chicks, and Joan Baez among many others.
June 26, 2013- Stephen King, John Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett join host David Dye in the studio. The horror author, populist songwriter, and accomplished producer combined their talents to create the musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.
