The James Hunter Six Gets The British Soul Singer’s Sound Right

April 17, 2013 - Our guest is by no means an overnight sensation. James Hunter fell in love with the sound of vintage R&B in his youth in England with the foundation of his grandmother’s 78s.

He sang in workingman’s clubs and got a break in the early 90’s when Van Morrison heard him singing and invited him on tour as a backing vocalist. In the 2000’s his present management discovered him busking and brought him to America where his 2006 album People Gonna Talk received a Grammy nomination. His new record Minute By Minute (credited to include his band The James Hunter Six) was produced by Daptone Records Gabe Roth and may be the best example of his sound yet.
