Jon Spencer Blues Explosion

Formed back in 1991 in New York City, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion puts the American rock and roll into alternative rock. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Jon Spencer, drummer Russell Simins, and bass guitarist Judah Baer. For over twenty years, the trio has reconstructed the base of American roots music through experimenting with their own sound and recording techniques. Their style draws upon the influences of many genres, including punk, blues, and rockabilly. Their unique approach to music has allowed the group to collaborate with artists such as Elliott Smith, Solomon Burke, Martina Topley-Bird, Steve Albini, and Ad Rock of the Beastie Boys.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion broke out into the New York City music scene in 1991 with their unique mix of alt rock, punk, and blues. Since then, the band has continued to experiment with their sound, releasing numerous albums over their 20+ year career. The band has worked with a diverse group of artists throughout their expansive career, such as Elliot Smith, Dr. John, Beck, and Ad Rock of the Beastie Boys. All three members of the group have also done various individual projects, working with artists such as Cat Power, Duran Duran, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tom Waits, and Yoko Ono. Following the reissues of their Matador albums, the band just released a raucous new album entitled Meat and Bone on September 18th, which is their first studio album in eight years. The band kicks off its tour in the U.S. and Canada in support of the release of Meat and Bone, plays The Abbey Bar in Harrisburg on October 4, and is in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 6th for a show at Underground Arts.
