This week’s Free at Noon will feature indie folk favorites Lord Huron. Hailing from Los Angeles, the band’s debut Lonesome Dreams gained praise and recognition from the likes of NPR and Stereogum. The band’s deep rooted country/folk sounds, along with their name, reflect Lake Huron that spans the Michigan and Ontario shores. Lord Huron founder Ben Schneider grew up visiting the lake and credits it for inspiring the group's musical sound. Their latest single is the lighthearted "Fool For Love,” which will appear on their new Strange Trails. The band kicks off a five-month tour starting April 22nd, stopping to play a sold-out show Philadelphia's Union Transfer on the first of May. This week’s Free at Noon features the eclectic collection of individuals that is The Waterboys. The band formed in 1983 and their sound has been dubbed "The Big Music”; their hit "Pagan Place" captured the essence of what they're about.

Led by founder and occasional solo performer Mike Scott based in Scotland, with members hailing from Ireland, and England, the band has released eleven albums over three decades; their most recent album, Modern Blues, was released on January 19th of this year. The alternative rock group is rich in history and influential to bands such as U2 and Simple Minds, and headlines the Keswick Theatre on Thursday April 23rd; don't miss them this Friday at World Cafe Live. Tune in to the Free At Noon Doubleheader at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, as Mason Porter and The Chris Kasper Band perform a live midday concert on Friday.


This week’s Free at Noon concert will feature Philadelphia folk scene regulars Mason Porter and The Chris Kasper Band as they perform songs from Grateful Dead's iconic records American Beauty and Workingman's Dead to celebrate the Dead’s 50th anniversary. To start the show, Mason Porter will be performing the Grateful Dead album “Workingman’s Dead” in its’ entirety, followed by The Chris Kasper Band performing the Dead’s “American Beauty” album in its’ entirety.

Kasper's 2013 album Bagabones, along with Mason Porter’s 2014 release Home for the Harvest, ensure that the collection of songs are in good hands, as both artists demonstrate their love and influence of Grateful Dead's work in their own music .

Released in 1970, American Beauty album has become a rock n' roll staple and spawned a legacy that fans view as a triumphant representation of an era. The album has gained widespread recognition for instrumental feats along with rankings in Rolling Stone's "Greatest Albums of All Time" list.

Tune in to the Free At Noon Doubleheader at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, as The London Souls and Turbo Fruits perform a live midday concert on Friday.


This week’s Free at Noon will feature a double header with New York duo The London Souls and Tennessee garage rock four-piece Turbo Fruits. The Souls are about to release their long-awaited second studio album Here Come The Girls, which is follows up their successful self titled debut from 2011. A car accident and long recovery delayed the release of the record for the band, which had nonetheless gained recognition with their songs appearing on shoe commercials and TV shows like Fearless Music.

Turbo Fruits are no strangers to success either; being featured in Drew Barrymore's directorial debut movie Whip It in 2009 and releasing four successful albums - the latest of which gained the seal of approval from The Black Keys' own Patrick Carney, who produced the record.
