PHC presents Gwyn Michael The Peace Gallery at Pebble Hill Church is exhibiting Gwyn Michael’s photographs for the month of November. Michael is a lifelong artist and creative explorer, with a passion for images that tell a story about the human condition: The story of birth, life, death, and rebirth as they weave through our lives, and the world around us. She seeks out beauty in the forgotten and flawed places most would overlook, and finds the grace in imperfection. The work does not depict reality so much as the underlying truth of impermanence in worldly things, and the moods and feelings that accompany her experience of it. |

8x10 and Under Description:
In recent years, a convergence of new technology and trends in the art market have fostered the emergence of ever-larger fine art photographs. The ability to make large prints has only gotten easier and more affordable with the advent of digital printing, and these large prints have crossed an art-world barrier—now considered contemporary art, not merely photography. These developments have been exciting and enriching for photography, allowing artists to explore ideas that otherwise would have been impossible to pursue. Yet in this celebration of all things immense, the small print has been relegated to a lesser status in the art world, immediately suspect because of its size and prompting the question, “Why not make it bigger?” With 8x10 and Under, Gallery 339 is pleased to bring together a group of contemporary landscape images that demonstrate the ongoing validity of the small photograph. The particularly tight limit—8x10 inches or smaller—was designed to show that even at this size, artists are able to fully and compellingly realize their vision for an image. The exhibition seeks to make it apparent that sometimes the answer to the question is, “It doesn’t need to be any bigger.” |

Edward Dimsdale: Agulhas Cape Agulhas is the southernmost point in Africa; it is where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans come together. Notorious among sailors, the intersection of these two distinct bodies of water creates powerful currents and treacherous weather conditions. With Agulhas, Edward Dimsdale similarly merges divergent and at times conflicting ideas and techniques in printmaking and photography to create a body of images that are made vivid by their inherent tensions—restraint and abandon; austerity and lavishness; modernity and obsolescence.
Using the most modern materials and developments in conjunction with one of the oldest methods of mechanical reproduction—the photogravure—Dimsdale deftly creates prints that retain the photogravure’s lushness and beauty of materials yet depart from tradition in their reduced, abstracted images.

Philanthropic Philadelphians:
In the Spirit of Thanks and Giving Those familiar with the Philadelphia region are likely to recognize the names of Rittenhouse, Clothier, Gratz and Elkins, among many others. What few realize, however, is that each of these places and institutions can be traced to the legacies of real people: individuals and families who made their fortunes in developing and industrializing the city of Philadelphia. Nonetheless, greatness can be—and indeed should be—measured in more ways than one. While these early Philadelphians may most often be remembered for their keen business sense, unrivaled success and accumulated wealth, it is ultimately how they chose to utilize their influence and share their fortunes that measured their true greatness. They have surely earned their peaceful rest at Laurel Hill.

Noises Off With breakneck pace and a rich gallery of characters, Michael Frayn's brilliantly witty farce follows the on- and off-stage antics of a touring company as they stumble from dress rehearsal to disastrous last night of the comedy, 'Nothing On'. Everything that can go wrong does, as the cast members desperately try to maintain composure sabotaging their fellow actors... resulting in a terrifying descent into chaos. Missed cues, broken backstage romances, and a very slippery plate of sardines all form part of this riotous, madcap comedy that will get everyone caught in the act! Phantom An epic, sweeping tale of murder, intrigue and romance, "Phantom" is told with more pathos and passion than other musical adaptations of Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera. This version, written by Arthur Kopit ("Nine", "Road to Nirvana") with stunning lyrics and
music by two-time Tony Award winner Maury Yeston ("Nine", "Titanic", "Grand Hotel"), faithfully tells the heartbreaking story of a disfigured musical genius who falls in love with the voice and beauty of a street singer who becomes his protege. But, can love finally embrace someone so
rejected by the world for his appearance? This exhilarating story, glorious music, elaborate sets and exquisite costumes will enrapture and captivate Fulton audiences. |
